Finance for managers - Harward Business Essentials

Just I grabbed book from library for understanding the basics of Banking. I read two concepts.

Money Markets
It is the way for companies to generate money for short term purpose.

Generally less than One year.

Companies will release bonds with the interest rate higher than the current
federal rate.

It can be bought and sold in secondary market (will explain later)

Capital Markets

It is the way to generate money for long term, such as securities, long term bonds.

Release through IPO.

Role on Investment Bank

It has interesting role of brokering IPO, acquisition. It works out pricing for IPO . IPO will happen after workshop or road show from the company to the investor groups. After IPO ,securities will be available in secondary market such as NASDAQ.
e.g Goldman Sacs,Calyon financials.

Please correct me any of my understanding is wrong.

Freakanomics - Steven D Levitt

This is the last book I read.

It claims that,it talks about hidden side of everything.

How real estate agents are cheating?

What makes people to work?

Statistics mostly lie

This I do agree, I have seen NIIT (Computer Learning Institute) notice board will always have pamplet says , 1,00,000 it graduates need for the year 2010 [Current Year + 2 0r 3]

I can say ,once you start reading it, you will not put down this.

But It doesn't make any concrete points.

have a look at this http://www.freakonomics.com/blog/

Stolen Quotes

“If I read a book that cost me $20 and I get one good idea, I’ve gotten one of the greatest bargains of all time.” – Tom Peters

“The difference between where you are today and where you’ll be five years from now will be found in the quality of books you’ve read.” – Jim Rohn

Garden and Life

Today I was spending my time in the garden, which is just 100 meters away from my house ,under Telok blangah hill [http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?f=q&hl=en&q=singapore&layer=&ie=UTF8&t=h&om=0&msa=0&z=18&ll=1.276626,103.811649&spn=0.002526,0.004989&msid=105239566517775126607.00000112003fb97271818]. It was highly maintained as similar to other parks maintained by NParks singapore. It has a natural spring which has a flow of water during the rain. and small lotus pond with gold fishes.

I love that place. I am also observing a guy who is care taker of the garden. he would be around mid 50s., he used clean the park regularly, broom the grass out of rotten leaves, clean the pond and this sort of things, he seems to show lot of commitment in his work. I am observing him for past one year.

Our body, soul and mind also like the garden. It requires a consistent and regular maintenance.we can't just seed something and comeback after sometime to reap the harvest.

It was a great idea from Jack canfield.

That care taker and the garden always remind me above points .
